So this little, itty bitty bird had a wonderfully profound message for me this morning (apparently the size of the creature has nothing do with the greatness of its communicatiion). I could hear this soft fluttering and could see those terrified, pleading, beedy little eyes peering out to me through the grate, and I'm thinking "great, now how do I free you, without scaring you even more--especially with the three dogs and two cats lurking about, trying to figure out what's going on?" My furnace room's location, being in the hallway of my home, allowed me to close off the open end of the hallway with a blanket tacked to the wall above the doorway, and close all the bedroom and bathroom doors, except for the one room directly across from the furnace--my husband's computer room-- which I left open with the windows wide. I then proceeded to open the front of the furnace (can't seem to get it back in place.....Hubby can do that later), which freed the bird and of course, seeing the only source of light, it flew directly out the window. Ok, it's kind of a long story.....but it has a point, so bear with me.......The moral of this story is.....drumroll please.......IT'S VERY EASY TO FOCUS ON THE LIGHT WHEN THAT'S ALL THERE IS !! Helllllooooo???? That's ALL there is ! Get that? I got it.....like.....right away....and thanked the bird.....and of course the Creator who sent him to remind me of the particular message I needed at that precise moment in time.

Celtic Traditions

Long ago, people believed the human soul shared characteristics with all things celestial.  They therefore designated virtues to the East, South, West, and North.  So, in keeping with that age-old tradition…..

We bless this marriage with the virtues of the East:  communication between your hearts, minds, and bodies; fresh beginnings with the rising of every day’s Sun; and the value of the wisdom of sharing silences.

We bless this marriage with the virtues of the South; a warm and welcoming home; the delight of your hearts’ passion; and the ability of both to lighten the darkest of times.

We bless this marriage with the virtues of the West:  the deepness of lake; the swift flow of the river; the newness after rain; and the all-encompassing fervor of the sea.

We bless this marriage with the virtues of the North:  a firm foundation to enrich your lives; a constant home to which you will always return.

Each of these blessings emphasizes things that will help you build a happy and successful marriage.  But remember, they are only tools; tools you must both use—individually and together, in order to have what you seek from this marriage.

Let the image of water and the romance of your story always flow in your hearts in strong waves, knowing they are guiding you towards a goal fulfilled, a dreaming that is true.

Bagpipes....

Quaichs.....(for 'toasting' or as a communion ceremony)

Unity Sand....(a work of art by the bride and groom!)

Hand-Fasting....

Kilts.....

Rings blessed by the five elements of air, water, fire, earth, and the Pure Light of Spirit:

And now, by Air, by Fire, by Water, and by Earth do I bless and consecrate these rings:
Air represented by blowing incense smoke through them....
Fire, by passing them through the flame of a white candle....
Water, by dipping...
Earth, as they rest upon a stone from the grounds of Ireland...

And the pure Light of Spirit represented by the love shared that day.

FEATHER WEDDINGS

EVERYBODY has wedding flowers, but do you have any idea how incredibly elegant feathers are for a wedding?

I’ve had occasion to do wedding centerpieces, wedding headpieces, wedding corsages, bouquets, and my all-time, number one favorite:  “The FeatherTouch Feather Exchange Ceremony”.

They are unique.  They are romantic.  They are whimsical.  Tasteful.  Even majestic!

And the ceremony itself?  Intensely personal.  I don’t always incorporate it into the wedding ceremony; I have given the Feather-Exchange ritual as a wedding gift to the couple, with instructions on how they are to use it in a very special time and very special place.  Some share it on their honeymoon.  Others in their new home.  Still others, on their 1st wedding anniversary.

For many couples the feather exchange ceremony  is the perfect one for vow renewals as well.

Whatever the case…..whether the feathers be part of their bridal decorations, bouquets, or merely symbolic of something deeply endearing between a man and a woman, they should definitely be considered for almost any special event.

And……who doesn’t know just how much fun feathers can be?  They tickle the fancy (and other things too), can have quite the dramatic effect when used in a boa, and that’s where I’m stopping, and simply inviting your own imaginations to follow through…..

A Medieval Celebration

A blessing to the Four Directions, consecrating the rings with the 5 elements….

All of it was just the beginning of this very special event.  Even the King and Queen showed up in all their finery, and the bride and groom were accompanied by swordsmen as ‘honor guards’.

It was delightful, and memorable, and as fun as a stage play, though still with its touching moments representing the sacred union.

The location was the Great Lakes Medieval Faire in Geneva, Ohio, deep in the forest (well, not very deep–but still surrounded by trees), amidst the company of fairy folk of course!  And as you will see from the photos, even Merlin made his entrance.  This was by far one of my favorite ceremonies, and I have done many…..

It was a true honor to be able to celebrate the new Lord and Lady!
